This is pretty much a no brainer for anyone who has played with these grinds, whilst you have some people who will indiscriminately take sides before trying either for whatever cause, the fact remains Scandinavian grinds are far better, whatever the task.
Let me go a little bit into dept before criticizing me.
So lets break this down into a few categories, game, woods, general utility.
While convex grind is "stronger" grind (though not proven) rhumor has it that it wont roll as easy or chip because it has more steel behind the edge backing it up, however this has proven to be false in numerous cases and I among others have discovered that a properly tempered blade, be scandi or any other grind will perform just as well, I have cut through bone with a mora 510, a 10$ knife without rolling or chipping, I have done the same with a BRKT northstar a knife well over 100$ and it chipped.
both are good here but what will determine a winner for game prep will generally revolve around, handle ergonomics and materials used (slick vs grippy), thickness of the blade and belly curvature.
For woods use now, not much a convex cant do that a scandi cant but lets explore fine detail work and precision cutting.
because of the convex of the blade you can scrap the idea of either and should pick up a scandi, the single bevel of this grind allows you to cut straight without swerving in/out of your line all the time allowing you to control your cuts and making them the most precise, there are several examples of this on youtube, one of my favorites is from a user called hobbexp. make sure to check him out.
And finally general utility, didn't bother over analyzing this cat, because general utility can also be done with a paring knife imho.
Another cat we didn't examine but could probably score points for a convex is camp chores (splitting wood... etc) but.... again nothing a scandi can't handle.
I'd be glad to hear your thoughts on this, I'd be willing to investigate further and rethink my grinds but until anyone has played with both for a period of time and put them all through the same test in the most non-biased way. only then can you choose for yourself which works best. Though more and more of these tests can be found on youtube, where the pros lay at would be Scandinavian.
